Portable devices could eliminate the PC

At present, there are an estimated 165 million smart phone and tablet users in the US and it seems that handsets are fast phasing out traditional PC browsing and being replaced with a smart and portable option that allows users access to the internet at any chosen time. Mobile analytics firm, Flurry has concluded that there has been no other device in history that has been adopted by users in such a short time on an international scale, and that PC browsing in the future may become almost obsolete.

Apple products such as the iPhone and iPad have revolutionised the way users browse the internet and interact, and the Android operating system has been instrumental in attracting users to portable devices thanks to its cross platform compatibility. Tests show that users can complete all the same actions as a PC on a portable handset, including mobile banking, social networking and conducting daily business, with the added bonus of having a built in camera and mobile phone.

Developers have realised that in order to capitalise on the ever expanding handset market and to remain competitive in the fast growing portable environment there is a need for OS and device specific compatible software. It has been shown that users have switched over to the iOS and Android 10 times faster than PCs were initially adapted to in the 1980s, and twice as fast as the internet boom in the 1990s. Device-specific compatible sites like http://www.iPadcasino.com.au/  have become increasingly popular as they provide high quality games to users of a certain device and specialise in offering the best possible gaming options in a safe and secure environment.

The appeal of handset browsing over PC browsing is clear and the benefits of mobile devices are numerous. The wireless, convenient and portable factors all outweigh the benefits of the PC and browsing can be conducted in any environment the user chooses. A PC has become an expensive, outdated and resource intensive product that is slowly being outdated as an end-user preferred device due to the extensive selection of handsets available. The market penetration of handsets continues to grow exponentially and the adoption of iOS and Android devices is occurring 3 times faster than that of social networks. These statistics are indicative that handsets are the new PCs and PC browsing may soon be a thing of the past.
