Eastwood Criticized for Rambling RNC Speech

A number of bad reviews were received for Clint Eastwood’s speech Thursday night at the Republican National Convention. Small Batteries Endangering Young Children

Parents beware. The tiny coin-shaped flat batteries found in a number of electronics, toys and musical greeting cards might be life threatening to younger children. On Friday, the Centers for Disease Control released an analysis that found that 14 children, 13 years and younger died and over 40,000 were injured from small batteries. The deaths of the 14 children were reported between 1997 and 2010.... 

Nokia Reports Second Quarter Loss (NYSE: NOK)

Nokia reported that its loss had more than tripled in the second quarter.  In the three months through June, the loss was €1.4 billion, or $1.7 billion.  The company also made a €742 million dividend payment during the quarter.  Since announcing its Microsoft alliance in February 2011, Nokia has amassed €3.5 billion in combined losses.  Nokia is based in Espoo, Finland. Société Générale Announces Disappointing Results (PINK: SCGLY)

Société Générale’s second-quarter results fell short of analysts’ expectations.  Net profit dropped 42% in the second quarter, to 433 million euros ($530 million), compared with 747 million euros during the same quarter a year earlier.  Analysts were expecting earnings of 764 million euros for the latest quarter. Gay Couple Sue United Continental

A gay couple from Virginia has accused United Continental Airlines of outrageous and extreme conduct following an incident that is alleged to have involved the couple’s sex toy. They said it had been taped to their luggage to be left in full view of all the other passengers. The incident, both men said, caused them to suffer from emotional trauma. Five Australian Soldiers Die in Afghanistan

Australia experienced its worst loss of members of its armed forces since the 1970s this week in Afghanistan. Five soldiers, working with the NATO-U.S. led coalition were killed. The deaths prompted the Prime Minister of Australia, Julia Gillard, to cut short her stay at a regional conference of Pacific leaders to return to Australia. Bank Profits Down in 2012 Second Quarter

Profits at banks dropped in the second quarter of 2012 partly due a huge trading loss at one of the big banks. Loan balances spiked for the fourth time in the last five quarters, said the FDIC on Tuesday.
