Jags fall to Giants; Miracle juice runs out

The Jaguars surprised everyone Sunday by heading into the locker room against the Giants with a 17-6 halftime lead. Imagine my surprise considering my pre-game prediction that the Jaguars would be blown out. As promised, I was fully prepared to eat crow. In fact, I began thawing it out and preheating the oven. But then a funny thing happened: The Jaguars emerged from the tunnel flat and out of sync,...

Week 12: Jaguars vs. Giants

“Yeah, keep Gene Smith.” According to Jaguars.com senior editor Vic Ketchman, those were the words of Tom Coughlin in his final meeting with owner Wayne Weaver, when asked if he had any advice for the franchise moving forward. Coughlin was fired in 2003 after spending the past three seasons trying to rebuild a roster in salary cap hell (a hell which he played a large part in creating)....

With protection, Garrard is elite

It’s been an up-and-down kind of season for Jaguars’ quarterback David Garrard, but the downs have been overblown and the ups have been have been underreported. When one digs deep into the situation, the facts become clear: The embattled quarterback has improved a great deal, and, with protection, he’s elite. Before you slam me for mentioning Garrard’s name and the word “elite,”...

Despite bad luck, Jaguars squeak by Browns

With all but six minutes remaining in the game, and the Jaguars trailing 17 to 10, it appeared as though the team’s luck had run out. Perhaps the football gods used two weeks worth of luck for “The Immaculate Deflection” which propelled the team to a victory against Houston. [smartads]It’s certainly possible. Either way, the Jaguars couldn’t catch a break against the Browns....

Jags looking for revenge against Browns

It was perhaps the low point of the season; a season which included a 41-0 thrashing in Seattle, and a heart-breaking loss against the Colts on Thursday Night Football. The Jaguars’ game in Cleveland last year was the final game of the season; it was also the final game of a four-game losing streak that kept the Jaguars out of the playoffs. “A little bit. I think so.” That was Terrence...

Podlesh had tumor removed in offseason

[smartads]NFL.com is reporting that Jaguars’ punter Adam Podlesh privately battled salivary gland cancer in the offseason, and had surgery to remove the tumor. Podlesh has two facial scars from the procedure. According to the report, many of his teammates were unaware of the procedure. Only his family, a few coaches, and the team doctors knew of the procedure. The procedure could’ve left...

Mike and Mike’s version of Brian Sexton’s “Hail Mary” radio call

Brian Sexton’s composure during the Jaguars’ “Hail Mary” play shocked ESPN’s Mike and Mike. Honestly, it shocked me too. I would have been yelling obscenities at the top of my lungs (actually, I did, but I wasn’t on the radio so I didn’t matter). To demonstrate what should have happened, Mike and Mike played around with Sexton’s call a bit. It’s...

Jags getting national media attention

[smartads]The Jacksonville Jaguars have been the darlings of the national media in the past couple of days. And for once, it the coverage of the team has nothing to do with ticket sales, attendance, blackouts, or Los Angeles. NFL Network is replaying the Jags thrilling win over the Texans on NFL Replay Tuesday. The program will feature eight interviews with Jaguars players an personnel, including...
